One of the most beautiful buildings of late antique architecture in the area of Herzegovina is Mogorjelo - the remains of a suburban Villa Rustica from the 4th century. The building was excavated between 1889 and 1903, and in the following years it was also conserved. The building is rectangular in shape with the main structure called the Palace, an imitation of Diocletian's palace, which was for living and surrounded by a high wall behind which there were ancillary rooms. The Villa was surrounded by 13 towers of which only one was on the southwest side, with a small secret door.
